Hearing test / OAE
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that we screen all children for hearing problems beginning at birth. Your child’s hearing will be tested in the hospital shortly after they are born. If your child does not pass this test or if it is not completed, we have a hearing screen called an OAE (otoacoustic emissions) that will be performed in our office at your first visit. We will also utilize the OAE to screen your child’s hearing at the two and three year old well visits. Early detection of hearing disorders allow for early intervention and reduced severity of language disabilities.
At the four and five year old well visits, we will perform an interactive hearing screen with your child. Please ask your provider at your next visit if you have any additional questions.
